Chief Financial Officer
Kentucky Lottery
As Chief Financial Officer, Maggie has primary responsibility for all accounting and financial functions of the Kentucky Lottery. This includes internal and external financial reporting, budgeting, accounts payable and validations, retail accounting and payroll. She is the Lottery’s liaison with the State Budget Office and the Consensus Forecasting Group.
The success and management of Lottery sales year after year is critical in fulfilling the corporation’s key mission of funding education. While 70% of Lottery revenues are returned to winners, the second largest portion of sales – 20% – goes to the Commonwealth of Kentucky to provide funding for college scholarships and grant programs.
Maggie is instrumental in overseeing and transferring the Lottery’s annual dividend goal to Kentucky state government. This success means more college students and their families are receiving scholarships and grants funded directly by Kentucky Lottery sales. She supports the mindset of always asking how expenses will positively impact the bottom line. While more prizes to players will likely increase sales, will the increased sales more than offset the increased expense to drive additional profits? These questions are answered by robust return on investment analytics that Maggie supports and encourages. This approach fosters data-driven and financially beneficial decisions.
Maggie serves as the financial expert on game enhancements, system changes, and other projects to ensure the accounting is appropriate and the projected impact on the financials is reasonable. She served as Chair on several request for proposal (RFP) committees, including one to identify a new enterprising resource planning (ERP) solution. She led the important project to replace an antiquated ERP solution, which involved a complete remapping of financial data, adoption of new processes, and training for all employees. This project was completed on time and within budget with no problems on implementation day.
Maggie is an outstanding representative for the Kentucky Lottery in representing the integrity and commitment behind the Edward J. Powers Award.
