OLG Rolls Out Self-Serve Lottery Technology Across Ontario

TORONTO (August 1, 2024) – Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has begun the gradual rollout of self-serve lottery in select retail locations across the province. The launch follows a successful pilot of a small number of terminals that took place earlier this year in the GTA and Sault Ste. Marie.

This new self-serve approach to purchasing lottery products was well-received in the pilot, with customers appreciating the convenience and variety of options. Through the terminals, customers can purchase all national and regional draw-based lottery games, as well as a variety of INSTANT products, using debit and credit cards (including Google Wallet and Apple Pay). While self-serve lottery offers a new, convenient option, consumers will continue to have the choice to purchase lottery tickets at retail counters and online at OLG.ca.

“When OLG’s lottery business grows, it also means more commissions for hardworking local retailers, as well as more money going right back into Ontario communities.”

“Improving the customer experience is a priority for OLG and expanding self-serve lottery gives Ontarians a great new way to buy their favourite lottery games,” says Nancy Kennedy, OLG’s Chief Lottery and Customer Officer. “When OLG’s lottery business grows, it also means more commissions for hardworking local retailers, as well as more money going right back into Ontario communities.”

OLG engaged its retail partners and other industry stakeholders to inform and collaborate on the introduction of this safe, secure and convenient access to lottery products. Full rollout will continue into 2025 with up to 1,400 self-serve lottery terminals in place across the province.

As with all its products, OLG prioritized player health in the development of self-serve lottery, with age verification and tailored responsible gambling messaging fully integrated into the terminals. As an additional security measure, the terminals can be disabled remotely by the retailer.
