Online Lottery Is Now Live In Connecticut

The Connecticut Lottery soft-launched its iLottery this past week with various draw games available including Mega Millions and Powerball

PLAY USA (June 17, 2024) After years of waiting, Connecticut Lottery Corp. customers can finally play the lottery from the comfort of, well, anywhere.

The Connecticut Lottery soft-launched its iLottery this past week, which means those within Connecticut state lines can buy various lottery games online. The much-anticipated launch comes after a drawn-out process that began when, among other things, online lottery sales were legalized in 2021.

Connecticut Lottery Manager of Public Affairs Art Mongillo told PlayUSA the iLottery is in soft launch at least until June 20.

Email issues that have risen since the soft launch are being addressed by the Connecticut Lottery, according to a post on its website. A date for the full launch has not been announced.

Key takeaways

  • The Connecticut iLottery is now live.

  • Purchase options are limited to draw games; no scratchers and instant-win games are available.

  • The Connecticut Lottery Corp. hired a new CEO/president with iLottery experience.

What you need to know about the CT iLottery

Connecticut Lottery customers can play the online lottery daily from 5 a.m. EST to 2 a.m. EST.

Draw games are the only type of games available from the Connecticut iLottery. “Draw games” are contests in which a random number draw determines winners. Scratch-off and instant-win games are not available to lottery customers.

The draw games available for purchase through the Connecticut online lottery include:

  • Cash5

  • Keno

  • Lotto!

  • Lucky for Life

  • Mega Millions

  • Play3 with Wild Ball

  • Play4 with Wild Ball

  • Powerball

Connecticut becomes the 13th state to offer online lottery sales through its state-run lottery.

CT Lottery’s Mongillo told PlayUSA at the beginning of the month he expected the iLottery to go live in around two weeks. His prediction was spot-on.

International Gaming Technology (NYSE: IGT), the CT lottery’s tech vendor, cleared some final regulatory hurdles for a mid-June launch.

CT Lottery hires new CEO with online lottery experience

Amid the online lottery soft launch, the Connecticut Lottery Corp. announced the hire of Frank Suarezas its president at SEO. Suarez is the executive director of the DC Office of Lottery and Gaming.

The DC lottery offers online lottery sales, giving Suarez valuable experience he’ll bring to Connecticut’s newly launched iLottery. Suarez said in a CT Lottery press release:

“I am honored and excited to join the Connecticut Lottery Corporation and to work with the talented team here to drive continued growth and success. Our focus will be on maximizing revenue for the state while maintaining the highest standards of integrity and responsible gaming.”
